The Lightning Process: Promising Results for Pain

The Lightning Process (LP) is a leading brain-mind-body approach that can help people with chronic health issues. This study looked at how the Lightning Process might impact fatigue, pain, and well-being, using well-known health scales, and explored the range of conditions it may address.

About the Study

Researchers gathered data from 96 LP participants (average age 49.5, mostly women) from the UK, New Zealand, USA, Canada, and Switzerland. 46 participants reported having pain, with 20 medically being diagnosed and 6 self-diagnosed. They rated their fatigue, pain, and wellbeing before starting LP training and then again 1 and 6 months afterwards.

What the Study Found

The Lightning Process showed promising, lasting benefits:

  • Fatigue: Scores dropped from 5 to 3.6 after 1 month and fell to 3.5 by 6 months.
  • Pain: Scores fell from 5.1 to 3.6 after 1 month, falling to 2.8 by 6 months.
  • Wellbeing: Improved from 41 to 53 after 1 month, rising to 56 by 6 months (a 3 point increase is meaningful).

20 people were diagnosed with pain by medical experts. Their results were:

  • Fatigue: Scores dropped from 5.7 to 3.3 after 1 month and to 3.5 by 6 months.
  • Pain: Scores fell from 5.4 to 3.3 after 1 month, to 3.5 by 6 months.
  • Wellbeing: Improved from 42 to 55 after 1 month, rising to 56 by 6 months (a 3 point increase is meaningful).

Only 6 people had self-reported pain.  Their results were:

  • Fatigue: Scores dropped from 5.4 to 4.7 after 1 month and fell to 3.5 by 6 months.
  • Pain: Scores fell from 4.2 to 3.3 after 1 month, falling to 2.3 by 6 months.
  • Wellbeing: Improved from 37 to 46 after 1 month, rising to 53 by 6 months (a 3 point increase is meaningful).

Conclusion

These results suggest the Lightning Process can help reduce fatigue and pain while boosting wellbeing for those with pain.  Further research needs to be done to help understand which people and conditions benefit most from the LP.
